Personality and Aptitude Tests
In addition to an application, some employers may require you to complete additional steps to see if you’re a good match for the job. This sometimes involves answering questionnaires or taking tests like one of the following:
- Personality tests aim to identify aspects of your overall character
- Aptitude tests (also known as ability tests) are meant to identify aspects of how you think and reason
Despite the name “test,” these aren’t really tests and you can’t really pass or fail them. They are used as tools for employers to get a better understanding of your aptitudes, personality, or ability. All you need to do is answer them honestly and be yourself.
Here are some things you can do to prepare:

- See if there are specific tests commonly used in the job or industry you want
- Read all instructions carefully

- Before you begin a test, find out if you are allowed to return to questions you’ve already submitted
