ObamaCare and MA Young Adults
According to a , young adults in the US are known to:
- Have the highest rate of being uninsured of any age group
- Have the lowest rate of access to employer-sponsored health insurance
- Have their health along with their finances at risk
Before the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted, young adults would lose their health insurance under their parents’ plan after they graduated college. Now, the ACA requires these health insurance plans to expand coverage for adult children up to age 26 regardless if they are attending college or not. Check out the video below or this :
But This Isn’t An Option For Me
Some of you may be asking yourself, “But how can the ACA help me get covered if …”
- Insurance through my parents isn’t an option
- I didn’t qualify for MassHealth last year and I probably won’t this year either
- I can’t afford the plans that are the best for me through the ACA
To answer your questions, the ACA has done two things to increase the chances of you getting financial support for health insurance coverage, including:
- Income limits for -MassHealth- eligibility have increased as a result of the ACA so you may be eligible now where you weren’t before.
ACA offers subsidies for people who don’t qualify for their state Medicaid program and can’t obtain health insurance elsewhere. These subsidies cover a portion of your health plan’s premium. Learn more and watch this:
